A neologism for “tomato” created by Paul Strack specifically for Eldamo, a loan word from Nahuatl tomatl. In a 2025-11-23 post to the Vinyë Lambengolmor Discord Server (VLDS), Ellanto instead suggested orf Avon "tomato” = “Aman-apple” as a combination of orf “apple” and Avon “Aman”. This etymology assumes that the Noldor first encountered tomatos in Aman and then brought knowledge of that fruit to Middle Earth, whereupon the Sindar borrowered the Noldorin name [ᴺQ.] amanorva. I feel that orf Avon involves too many assumptions about the history of Middle Earth and prefer a loan word from Nahuatl instead.
