A word for “twelve hours, day” in The Etymologies of the 1930s under the root ᴹ√AR¹ “day” (Ety/AR¹). Notes on The Feanorian Alphabet from the 1930s and 40s had arya “day (12 hours)” as the name of the palatized r-tengwa: 7Õ or 6Õ (PE22/23, 52). In Demonstrative, Relative, and Correlative Stems (DRC) from 1948 [ᴹQ.] -ar(yas) was used in suffixal form for adverbs of time such as sinar(yas) “today, this day” and umanar(yas) “someday; in a certain day” (PE23/108-109).
Conceptual Development: The entry ᴹ√AR¹ in The Etymologies initially had a noun form arda “day (twelve hours)” and an adjective arya “of the day, light”, but arda was deleted and arya became the noun form (EtyAC/AR¹).
