Derivations

ᴱN. belon n. “*sail” (Category: Sail)

The Gnomish Lexicon of the 1910s had G. belon “a sail” connected to Q. velu (GL/22), probably a reference to the early root ᴱ√VELU from which ᴱQ. velunte “sail” was derived (QL/100). A mutated form ᴱN. {velon >>} bhelon appeared in notes associated with the Early Noldorin Grammar of the 1920s, but in that document it had no translation and the sentence in which it appeared was deleted (PE13/128).

Neo-Sindarin: Since I keep ᴺQ. veluntë “sail” for purposes of Neo-Quenya, I would keep ᴺS. belon “sail” as well, perhaps derived from a variant primitive form *belunnā.
