G. ger n. “ore, metal” (Category: Metal)
A word appearing in the Gnomish Lexicon of the 1910s as G. ger “ore, metal” related to ᴱQ. yere(n) “pig iron” (GL/38; QL/105), since in Gnomish ancient initial y became g.
Neo-Sindarin: In a 2024-08-17 post in the Vinyë Lambengolmor Discord Server (VLDS), Luinyelle suggested restoring ᴺQ. yeren “pig iron” with the added meaning “*ore”, which also implies the preservation of ᴺS. [G.] ger “ore, [unrefined] metal”. Presumably these words would be derived from a Neo-Root ᴺ√GYEREN of similar meaning.
