ᴺQ. !atsat n. “second; semitone (music)” (Category: to Study)
A neologism for “minute” coined by Silmériel posted on 2026-05-15 in the Vinyë Lambengolmor Discord Server (VLDS), a combination of √AT “second” and √SAT “portion” as in the second portion of an hour, roughly the etymological equivalent of “minuta secunda” [second] vs. “minuta prima” [minute = minsat]. It can also be used to refer to a diatonic semitone (minor second) interval in music, that is the distance between two notes in a 12-note chromatic scale. It could theoretically also be used for a Valian second using the time scale Tolkien invented around 1959 based on the Valian year (NM/10-12), but that would be confusing if it is also used for a terrestrial “second”, so I recommend against this.
