ᴺQ. !minsat n. “minute; prime (music)” (Category: to Study)

ᴺQ. !minsat, n. “minute; prime (music)” [created by Silmériel] (Category: to Study)
ᴺQ. !lúmincë “minute, moment”

A neologism for “minute” coined by Silmériel posted on 2026-05-15 in the Vinyë Lambengolmor Discord Server (VLDS), a combination of √MIN “first” and √SAT “portion” as in the first portion of an hour, roughly the etymological equivalent of “minuta prima” [minute] vs. “minuta secunda” [second = atsat]. It can also be used to refer to a prime interval in music, that is two notes that are exactly an octave (12 notes) apart in a chromatic scale. It could theoretically also be used for a Valian prime using the time scale Tolkien invented around 1959 based on the Valian year (NM/10-12), but that would be confusing if it is also used for a terrestrial “minute”, so I recommend against this.

Elements

MIN “one, first of a series”
SAT “divide, apportion, mark off; space, place”
