A neologism for “tomato” created by Paul Strack specifically for Eldamo, a loan word from Nahuatl tomatl. In a 2025-11-23 post to the Vinyë Lambengolmor Discord Server (VLDS), Ellanto instead suggested orf Avon "tomato” = “Aman-apple” as a combination of orf “apple” and Avon “Aman”. This etymology assumes that the Noldor first encountered tomatos in Aman and then brought knowledge of that fruit to Middle-earth, whereupon the Sindar borrowered the Noldorin name [ᴺQ.] amanorva. I feel that orf Avon involves too many assumptions about the history of Middle-earth and prefer a loan word from Nahuatl instead.
