ᴺQ. !alavéla adj. “different, dissimilar, unlike; various [pl.]” (Category: Different, Other)

ᴺQ. !alavéla, adj. “different, dissimilar, unlike; various [pl.]” [created by Helge Fauskanger, NQNT] (Category: Different, Other)

A neologism for “different” coined by Helge Fauskanger for his Neo-Quenya New Testament (NQNT), a negated form of véla “alike”. I would use this word to mean “different” in the sense “dissimilar, unlike”, as in A (ná) alavéla “A is different [from]/unlike B”, as opposed to hyana “other” which I would use for “different” in the sense “distinct from” or “another”: lá, náne hyana nér “no, [it] was another/a different man”. In the plural, Fauskanger used alavéle to mean “various” (= different from one another): cennen alavéle neri i mallesse “I saw various men on the street”.

Tamas Ferencz suggested lavéla for “different, dissimilar”, while Neo-Quenya Wiki had alimya “different”, but I prefer Fauskanger’s neologism.
