Earlier name of Caradhras “Redhorn” in Lord of the Rings drafts from the 1940s (RS/419). It also appeared in The Etymologies from the 1930s as a combination of tarag “horn” and goer “red” (Ety/TARÁK).

Earlier (rejected) name of Caradhras “Redhorn” in Lord of the Rings drafts from the 1940s (RS/433). It seems to be a combination of caran “red” and beleg “mighty”, as suggested by Roman Rausch (EE/1.12).
