G. had prep. “facing, opposite, over against; (c. allative) against, instead of, in return for, for, as” (Category: Across, Athwart)
A preposition in the Gnomish Lexicon of the 1910s meaning “facing, opposite, over against” (GL/47). In combination with the allative it meant “against, instead of, in return for, for, as”. The derivation of this preposition is unclear, since the early root ᴱ√HATA meant “hurl, fling” (QL/39), and G. hada- “throw at” was grouped with a different set of words (GL/48).
