G. clamfa- v. “to grab, claw at” (Category: to Grasp, Seize, Take Hold of)
A verb in the Gnomish Lexicon of the 1910s glossed “grab, claw at” based on G. clam(p) “grasp, claw” (GL/26). Tolkien said it was often used in conjunction with the word G. famp “handling, touching, feeling; stroking, caressing, ‘fuss’; fingering, appraising, assay” (GL/33).
