This verb is attested as
linduvanye [last letter obscure, but likely
e as suggested
Carl Hostetter]. It appeared in etymological notes published in the front piece of the 1975 edition of
Les Aventures de Tom Bombadil as the cognate to S.
linnathon, which was elsewhere translated “I will sing”. Helge Fauskanger suggested it may also have the sense “make music” (QQ/lindalë)
and was likely the basis for the word
lindalë “music”.
