Q. [ji], [wu] became [i], [u]; [ji|wu] > [i|u]
In cases where after other transformations, a semi-vowel y [j] preceded an i or a semi-vowel w preceded a u, the semi-vowel as lost. These late collisions are rare and mostly the result of other vocalic developments such as aye > eı̯e > ie. This sound change was a factor in the development of the Quenya perfect tense for verbs ending in -ya, such as:
