A word for “height, stature” in the Gnomish Lexicon Slips of the 1910s derived from primitive ᴱ✶alō (PE13/115), appearing after and probably related to G. alw(eg) “lofty” as suggested by the editors (PE13/109). Tolkien specified ôl had no plural.
